DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DOESN’T CARE ABOUT GENDER, AGE, RACE, OR STATUS. HERE’S THE PROOF.

It was a busy week for all of us as we still are trying to keep up with the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial even though the verdict clearly stated that Johnny Depp won earlier this month. It was a big win for Depp as his wish was to redeem himself and prove to the world that he wasn’t the monster of a man Amber Heard said he was. Upon him winning the trial, Amber Heard now owes him more than $10 million. Interestingly enough her lawyer insisted she didn’t have the money to pay him that amount even though while the trial was going on, she stayed at a lavish house that cost her thousands of dollars a night with her daughter, and she took a private jet to a destination once the trial was over. For those of you that don’t know, a trip on a jet could cost up to $300,000 per hour.

Since he regained his reputation, Depp has been staying quiet, having only released an official statement as soon as the verdict was read by the jury. Otherwise, he’s been focusing on his music career and even announced an upcoming album. Amber Heard, along with her lawyer, has been the exact opposite. As soon as the trial was over and done with, Amber Heard’s lawyer began speaking to the media on multiple occasions. Heard herself booked an interview with Savannah Guthrie, whose husband served as a consultant for Depp’s legal team during the trial. Therefore, Guthrie had an advantage at hand as she had inside information on the trial.

The full interview aired on a periodic basis. I’m guessing it was so that we, the audience, wouldn’t be so overwhelmed with the amount of bullsh*t that came out of Amber Heard’s mouth. I didn’t watch the full interview. I figured I had better things to do than waste my time watching the woman lie through her teeth over and over again. Just like it was while the trial was happening, specifically when Johnny Depp and his witnesses testified, she had a smirk on her face all throughout. She wasn’t talking as a domestic violence survivor, but rather a performer. One of the jurors even opened up that the entire jury team didn’t believe her crocodile tears.

As a domestic abuse survivor myself, it was embarrassing even watch the clips and reaction videos of Amber Heard speak. Not only was it embarrassing, but it was laughable as well. During the trial, Heard had her crocodile tears during her testimony and said all she wanted was for her ex-husband to leave her alone so that she could move on with her life. And yet, not only does she continue talking about her ex-husband and telling the entire world she still loves him even though he abused her and made her life a living hell, but rumour has it that she’s writing a tell-all book about her marriage s well.

Of course, there are 3 sides to every story – side A, side B, and the truth. I’ve been saying that all along throughout the entire blog. We don’t actually know the whole story of what happened in their marriage and their relationship as a whole, and I’m not saying that Johnny Depp was in the right either. But he did go through substance abuse and mental health struggles, and that would most definitely change a person as a whole. Amber Heard, on the other hand, is just an abusive person. She has an abusive behaviour, and it wasn’t just with Johnny Depp, but with her friends, family, and even the people that work for her.

She told Guthrie during her Dateline interview that if all the evidence she had was shown during the trial, she’d win it. Then why didn’t she show everything she had? All she had were pictures of Depp sleeping and obviously intoxicated, and videos of him angrily opening and closing his kitchen cabinets and breaking his cutlery. But does that mean he’s a violent person? No, most certainly not. It means he was angry during a fight with his wife and it means he had substance abuse issues. Heck that’s what I looked like after a hangover during my drinking days. I might’ve looked even worse! And may I add that my husband and I did get into fights where he’d flip out, get angry, break plates, and even kick walls out of anger. Despite all of this, he NEVER lay a hand on me, and he was never abusive towards me in any shape or form. And I will never say otherwise no matter how angry I get him, whether we stay together as a couple or not.

Heard’s former assistant testified during the trial that she told her employer about her rape survival story, and then that story was stolen and twisted by Heard to make it seem as her own. As a rape survivor myself, I almost felt like crying when I read an article about it. It’s been over 14 years since since I was raped by someone who I considered a friend. Not only did I feel betrayed by someone I thought was close to me, but instead used me and my vulnerability at the time to get what he wanted, but with that also came a pregnancy scare. I was a teenager at the time, and to this day, it’s still one of the most heartbreaking, life-changing time in my life. It’s affected every aspect of my life to this very day, even as an adult woman. No one has a right to steal and twist my story for their own benefit. It’s not anyone else’s story to tell. It’s mine.

It’s been said that Johnny Depp winning the trial diminishes the #MeToo movement. Truth be told, however, it doesn’t. Domestic abuse has no gender whatsoever. Domestic violence has no gender. It has no age. It has no race. It has no status. It doesn’t even have ability or disability. It doesn’t care. Both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard proved that.
