Jack Berger was Carrie Bradshaw’s most toxic ex-boyfriend. Even Big doesn’t hold the first spot. He was the guy that broke up with Carrie using a Post-It note. It wasn’t the worst thing he ever did to her, though. Instead, the worst thing he ever did was be the man who tried to make Carrie believe she ever had to apologize for her success. His stint on ‘Sex And The City’ showcased what happens when a man and a woman in a relationship work in the same field and the woman is more successful. Throughout his relationship with Carrie, Berger showed jealousy, sadness, intimidation, anger, and loneliness in his failing career while seeing the woman he supposedly loved live the life that he wished he had. Though his character did have some positive qualities that made us see what Carrie saw in him, having given us that famous, ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ line, Berger’s arc begs the question, are men’s toxic tendencies ever redeemable?

‘My Old Ass’ is a coming-of -age teen movie that follows the main character – Elliot – in the 18 version of her and the 39 version of her. Her older self tries to give her younger self some life-advice such as spend more time with her friends, her mom and her brothers before she leaves her hometown for a new adventure. Then she gives her the advice that young Elliot doesn’t seem to understand – avoid a boy named Chad at all costs. Young Elliot, as well us, the audience, try to figure out what’s wrong with Chad, but we find nothing. He’s perfect in every way. We then find out that Chad dies and there will be nothing Elliot will be able to do to avoid it. Older Elliot tries to control her life by telling her younger self to avoid the same circumstances of having her heart broken in such a way. So this begs some questions: Would you listen to your older self and not fall in love with someone because you now know the ending of your story with them, and would you change the course of your entire life if you could to avoid getting hurt? We already know that she’s a liar, a manipulator, a scammer, and even a pedophile.
